Team Maastricht 2015-2016

We are a team of students from the interdisciplinary Bachelor of Liberal Arts and Sciences at University College Maastricht. In cooperation with University College Freiburg, we organize the second Global Order Conference in June 2016. We are looking forward to meeting you at the Conference to explore themes of mobility and migration in global order. If you cannot wait until then, our global order events leading up to the Conference are exactly what you are looking for - stay posted!

Lea Dannich

My name is Lea Dannich. I was born in Nürnberg, Germany, in 1996 and grew up in a small but sweet town nearby. In 2014, I finished school and decided I wanted to see some parts of the rest of the world. Thus, I moved to the Netherlands and started my Bachelor in Liberal Arts and Sciences at University College Maastricht. I focus on international affairs, with a particular interest in conflict resolution, international relations of the Middle East, and international law, since I am passionate about designing peaceful solutions for violent conflicts. In my spare time, I read loads of books, and whenever I feel like it, I play the piano. For the Conference, I organize the track on Borders and Human Rights together with Julia and Isabelle, my peers from University College Freiburg. We will explore state responsibilities, border policies and migrant rights in the EU.

Niklas Elsenbruch

My name is Niklas Elsenbruch. I was born in Mönchengladbach, Germany, in 1996. I study literature and politics at University College Maastricht since 2014. This combination may be unusual, but I believe it makes sense: literature is my passion, and I see politics as a powerful tool to give others the freedom to pursue their passions as well. Combining my interests in literature and politics, I have regularly written for the German daily newspaper Rheinische Post. Currently, I am on the board of our UCM magazine The Bell. In the Global Order Conference 2016, I use my knowledge about media to coordinate the track Identity & Media together with my UCF peers Marilena and Jan. We will explore culture- and identity-related issues of migration and investigate how media both portray and shape migration. In my leisure, you probably find me reading or writing. Otherwise, I take acting classes and perform in movies I write and produce together with my friends. Since eight years I play acoustic guitar and I have too little time to continue playing soccer.

Raphaël Morsomme

My name is Raphaël Morsomme and I am a second year student at University College Maastricht. My academic interests are political philosophy, political economy and data analysis. I particularly appreciate political philosophy because it offers valuable keys to better understand a great variety of events, ranging from the American presidential elections to the migratory policy of German Chancellor Angela Merkel. I decided to take part in the Global Order Project because it offers me the possibility to foster a debate among students and professionals on a topic that concerns each of us: global order. Together with Inga, my Conference partner from University College Freiburg, I organize a track on citizenship and the nation-state. We will analyze how the major migratory phenomena that several regions of the world are experiencing challenge the widely-accepted definitions of citizenship and nation-state. Based on this analysis, we will try to come up with alternative definitions of what it means to be a citizen, which are better suited for the 21st Century.

Lucas Petrelli

My name is Lucas Petrelli, I am a third-year student at University College Maastricht focusing on governance, political theory and international affairs. I am especially interested in EU politics and the further development of the European project, as well as in fundamental questions in political philosophy. Born in Brazil to a quite multicultural family, I am mainly German, Austrian and Italian. Extracurricularly, I am very active in Model United Nations, but also in other projects on EU policymaking. Moreover, I enjoy travelling and horse riding very much. At the second Global Order Conference, I coordinate the track Global Politics and Forced Migration, which addresses the role of national interests in generating and exacerbating conflicts leading to refugee crises.
